#1 lifters can't be tightened, nor to they need to be. #2 "the engine has lost pressure" is a vague statement, meaningless to me. I have a feeling these people don't know what they are doing and can't figure out whats wrong with the car as simple as it may be. If your engine is ticking it could be several things. Just sticking lifters, often cureable with lightly flushing your engine a few times and keeping it full of good clean oil. This type of lifter tick isn't that detrimental. We often see lifters ticking because people just don't have enough oil in the engine. Which is inexcusable, but a lot of people can't figure out the dipstick. Lifters can tick because of oil starvation, and one of the most common reasons for that is a small dent in the bottom of the oil pan, doesn't take much to block of the clearance between the pick-up and the pan. VTC gears can click, rattle, etc. We can easily distinguish between the two.
